Look for the worst-case scenario on whatever it is that you are wanting to do.
Why?
Make sure you avoid it at all costs.
Always ask yourself, what if it does not come out as I expect? What if it is a worst-case scenario?
Is it going to be easy to fix? Do I have the budget for it?
Look for scenarios of fuck ups and make sure you know what it is the worse scenario on what you are doing can be. And once you know
Even if it is as simple as bleaching your hair for the first time. I don’t care, all beauty hacks you want to try, I want you to FBI search for worse case scenarios, haha.
To make sure, first, that you have a great idea of what can happen in shit happens. Second, because this way you will understand better, what kind of expertise you're looking for and part your search from there.
Example.
If the wrong products of the hairstylist are new can totally burn your hair from roots to ends on a simple bleach process. You're looking for a hairstylist that is mostly a master colorist, and probably will make sure you understand that bleaching is a several-session process and that the first end results might not be as desired.
Do I have the budget, time, and guts to go through it if it does not come out well?
How long can it take to get fixed?
How hard or easy would it be to fix?
Would I have to go back to the same professional or find a new one? Do I have several options on who to go to?
Do not go and get something done and then find yourself asking this question once you're already trying to fix it!!!!
Fixing somebody else work requires an even more talented and hard-to-find professional.
You suppose to already have gone to the best, to begin with.
This is the best way to set yourself up for failure or success. And let me tell you in the "beauty journey", you do not want to fuck up worse something you are already trying to improve or fix.
It is already not perfect, that is why we are trying to fix it right.
Do not make it worse, setting yourself for failure before you even begin the process.
ALWAYS be very aware of the worst-case scenario. This will also lead you to know, that it is exactly what you're looking for in a professional in their field when you start your search for the best. And make sure is the best. Be like an FBI agent checking credentials, years of expertise, other patients/clients REAL cases, talk to them very thermally on worse case scenarios they have had and how they fixed them, what are they doing to make sure they don't make mistakes, and if they do, what kids guarantee are they giving you, understand is not about the money you will spend on getting the procedure/treatment/job/makeup, etc done.
Is about they becoming part of your beauty journey and making sure they're committed as you are to perfection and getting things done right.
Professionals that are passionate in their field WILL NEVER MIND the tough questions, they will never get offended on you asking and challenging and caring about fuck ups. Actually, that is those kinds of questions that had led to the best talks and most informative times I have ever spent with professionals, not their field.
If they're really good at what they do, they will understand, relate, and even like the fact, that you care, that much, that is that commuted and interested and ready to make things happen the right way! It had lead me to the biggest and long-lasting connections with the best professionals I have found. They see the same passion in me, and who does not want to get their job done on a Patience’s/client that will make sure and all possible follow the directions perfectly to achieve the best end results!!!
Be that patient/client.
I don't care if they feel I am interviewing them, phish I am actually doing, I look to spend my money not he best of the best, it is a job interview. The difference is, that I go to their office and pay for the time, so in exchange, whether I hire the professional or not I get information and I always make sure to spend the full hour there asking the many questions possible to make the best out of my money.
And yes, I have made some professionals feel not so happy about the intensity of my “job interview” which is really the search for the best of the best coming from a totally intense perfectionist.
Do you know what I have got out of being that freaking intense and passionate about my beauty journey?
The least fuck ups and great look and all information that gave me the opportunity and credential to dare to write this book and make sure this technique works! I m protecting your beauty from even yourself.
This quality control standard is the minimum
Ont the opposite, if they feel offended, or uncomfortable about the tough questions, then they are not your master, and keep your search. People that are the best in their field do not shy away from the tough questions, sharing their job, talking about themselves and especially their fuck ups that made them the master they are now. believe me, you both will have a connection as you start making your questions and when you feel that goes from your skin your job interview questions go from that to a passionate conversation about something are both interested in, then you found him/her.
A Master in their field is nobody if they don't have a body/canvas/muse to work on.
Be their best inspiration/canvas.
I have also found that when they see my passion, discipline, and interest in making their job the best possible, they care about me differently and really do their best job. In the days of social media when everybody wants to showcase their best work with pictures and video, it is a great value-added when they know you will use all the right directions, products, care, etc to get the best out of their job.
It also keeps them on their feet, a little, because they know that I know what am I talking about. Do not try to fool me, boy. Period. They know it. They know I expect the best, that I went to them, paid their price, and expect the best. And that is the road to success on the beauty of any journey but this is a beauty book. Haha.
Am I perceived as a super intense perfectionist? maybe. Do I care? No. I care if it is in a negative way, then I want to address it because you don't want somebody to work on my beauty and not want to. Ugh, the formula for failure.
Otherwise, I really don't care, I am unapologetically me, when is my search for beauty masters. And neither should you.
Do you want to know why?
If they fuck up. They really don't care.
It is your image, not theirs.
They will not spend the extra money. Sometimes, due to business, they even prefer to make you come back, that way you keep spending money on their business. Sad, but true. Be aware of these kinds of professionals, they do exist.
They will not have to do the walk of shame daily until it gets fixed.
It is you, this is your journey, your body, your image, you will have to walk out there and deal with it every day. So remember this every time you start the search for a new thing you want to try, improve, or change (fix).
And I go back on I don't care how little or easy your new beauty thing can be.
Example.
Plugging your eyebrows for the first time.
Look for fuck ups on your tube on all techniques.
Choose the technique with the fewer fuck ups or the one you like the most. But make sure you're aware of how bad can it get if they fuck up doing that technique and what in the hell they had to do to fix it. And see what it looks like when the fuck up is fixed. Yes, do not shy away from the ugly truths, it is better, way better when you see somebody else going through it so you never risk them being you!
Then is like ok, what skill does my professional need to have in order for me to get it done with them. And start your search, take the time it takes, and do not rush into it.
I want real cases for the patient/clients.
Years of experience and proven record. At this time of coronavirus when a lot of people do their usual job and are in the search of making money with at-home beauty professions, are some of my biggest nightmares. No passion for their field, no experience, and if they fuck you up they can disappear with impromptu beauty salons that are there today and gone tomorrow or just simple people that work going to your home and that implies, regularly, that the spa and salon hygiene standards are not me, as so acmes to the right tools, material, light, products, etc.
I have seen some of the worse scenarios in the past 2 years than probably in the past 10. Please do not be one of them.
Make the job interview as It needs to be. If you're not satisfied, not sure, you did get the vibe/connection. Keep your search. The biggest fuck ups are mostly on this step. Without patience, you will find yourself rushing into the “best you found” and then a snowball of fuck ups will come undeniably after that, I am being serious. Do not underestimate the power of patience on this step.
It had taken me years sometimes to find the right people to add to my beauty journey or squad if you want to call it like that.
But it has always protected me from fuck ups.
And that is priceless.
With love,
